Hello again stranger! Today, we’re going to look at Twitter, and how to effectively promote your business using it. Twitter has been around for a while now, so you might be wondering what I can teach you about it that’s new. Well yes, there are a lot of people with Twitter accounts already. But how many of those are effectively bringing in a steady stream of new potential community members? And how many of them are interacting with their followers in a way that will give good results?
The truth is, the majority of people that attempt to promote their business on Twitter don’t see as much results as they could. This can be seen by the amount of followers they have, and also the amount of interaction that is carried out on their page.
When used correctly, Twitter has a number of benefits. Not only does it give you a platform to get your business out there, but when use in conjunction with specific twitter automation software, you can also gain a lot of new genuine followers fast! A percentage of these followers will go on to check your website and be interactive with you, so it’s well worth using just for this benefit alone.
But enough with the introduction, you know what Twitter is, and you now know what we hope to achieve from it. So, let’s look at how we go about doing this.
Aims Of This Lesson
- Gaining Traffic.
This lesson will help you gain traffic to your website without the use of Google.
- Community Building.
This lesson will help you build up a loyal community.
Why Would You Want Twitter Followers?
One question I have to address, is if it’s worth getting a lot of twitter followers on your account. If you can do it so easily and so fast, will it bring you any real benefit? Or is it just like the MySpace days, where you would have 1000 ‘friends’ and no one would know who you are?
I can tell you right now that gaining a lot of Twitter followers fast is nothing like when you do the same on MySpace. The followers you will be getting here will actually benefit you. Some will go on to check out your website with genuine interest, and some will turn into life long fans. Yes a good amount of them won’t go on to check your website out, but that’s all just part of the sales funnel. You’re funneling out people who won’t be interested in what you have to offer, and you’re entertaining the ones that will have an interest in what you offer.
Either way, you have got yourself in front of a lot of people in your niche. From there you just need to convert as many of them as you can into real community members and customers. If your Twitter profile is engaging and the site you direct them to is good, you will get some people becoming loyal members of your community.
Here are the main two reasons having a large number of Twitter followers will benefit you:
- A Lot Of Potential Eyeballs.
When you tweet your messages out, they will go in front of all the people on your Twitter profile who is online at the time. To put it simply, the more people you have on your account, the more eyeballs your messages will get in front.
You will notice that depending on what time of the day you send a tweet out, different people will see it. It’s because of this that you should aim to send variations of the same tweet out at different points during the day.
- Having A Lot Of Twitter Followers Provides Social Proof.
When you create a ‘Twitter Follow’ button for your website (We will show you how to do this below in the ‘Other Ways To Get Followers’ section) you have the option of allowing people to see how many followers you have. If you have a large number of follower, this displays good social proof, and encourages others to see what all the hype is about. You will get more people checking your profile out, and more going on to join if what you offer is good.
Although it’s good to have a lot of followers, I wouldn’t recommend you getting just anyone on your account. These have to be targeted followers, with real potential interest in what you have to offer. Having 10,000 followers that are only interested in cars will be of no use to you if what to promote your cleaning business, so don’t go for the whole ‘buy 1000 Twitter followers’ thing. There is a better way to get a load of followers fast; followers that will also be targeted people with a genuine interest in your niche. How do you go about getting these followers? Through clever Twitter automation!
The Power Of Automating Twitter
Alright. So I know that some of you are going to have a pre-conceived idea that Twitter automation software is spammy, but it really doesn’t have to be. It only gets spammy when it’s used wrong, and when you use it to overload people with messages rather then to benefit them.
Believe me when I tell you that what I’m about to share with you is the best way to go about establishing yourself on Twitter. It includes many of the same tactics that the big companies with tens of thousands of followers on Twitter use, so if you want to get a slice of the pie that they’re getting, you will want to read on.
The best way to get going with Twitter if you haven’t already got an established fan base or community to build up your account, is to automate the profile building process. Hear me out before you form an option either way.
I’m not in any way suggesting that you should leave the social aspect of Twitter and instead fully automate everything. That would avoid the whole point of building a community; you build a community by showing your personality and offering people what they need. You’ll still be replying to people’s tweets to encourage building relationships, and you’ll still be interacting with the community. What you won’t be doing however, is adding people one by one through Twitter.
Your Twitter promotion campaign will be half automation, and half genuine interaction. This genuine interaction stage will be used to turn your new followers into people with a genuine interest in what you offer.
You see, while building a community is part of the aim, this will be a long and slow process without some automation in place. With that said, we’ll be automating the amount of followers we get, and sending these people back to our site to find out more about us. This will get us traffic from Twitter a lot easier and quicker then any other way, and start benefiting our business within the first week or less.
We won’t be adding just any random people to our Twitter profiles mind you, we’ll be sending targeted Twitter users that have already shown a similar interest in what we’re offering.
Want to know how to do that? Well read on below for all the info.
Step By Step How To Get New Targeted Followers Using Tweet Adder
In order to automate our profile building, we’re going to be using a tool called Tweet Adder. More on this later.
Before that, the most important thing you need to remember when it comes to getting Twitter followers, is that they need to be targeted. In other words, they need to be into the same type of things you’re already promoting, not just any random people who have interests unknown to you. These are the sort of people that are more likely to follow you back, and ultimately go on to check out your website and do what you want.
So how do you find these targeted people? Easy:
You find your competitor’s Twitter pages, and look at their followers.
It’s as simple as that. These people have already shown an interest in your niche (Hence them following your competitors), so they’re the perfect people to get on your Twitter page.
When looking at your competitor’s followers, have a look at how interactive they are. Does your competitor interact with their followers a lot? If so, this is a good sign that the followers are responsive and ideal for your needs. Similarly, if a lot of people are following your competitor but your competitor isn’t following many people themselves, this is also a good sign. It implies that people are following them as they are genuinely interested in what they have to say. They could also be interested in what you have to offer as you provide a similar style.
Below is a step by step guide on how to get a load of targeted Twitter followers using Tweet Adder, and make them do what you want them to do.
- You initially need to make sure your Twitter page is set up with a few tweets and a unique design. This is so people will actually want to look into your page further, and get involved with what you’re doing. If you haven’t done this yet, you need to do this before you carry out the rest of these steps.
- Make a new tweet, and in that tweet include a call to action. For example, if your site is about pet grooming and health, you might tweet:
“Find out how to get rid of your dogs flees in 3 easy steps: *Insert link here*”.
It is important you make it clear what you want them to do, and you insert a link pointing back to a relevant page on your website.
- Next up, you want to find and add some targeted followers. First of all, you need to find a competitors Twitter page. They will of course need to have a good amount of Twitter followers, so the more the better. You can find your competitors pages via their websites, or by searching “*your niche* Twitter” in search engines. For example, if your website is about jokes, you can search “Jokes Twitter”.
- Once you have a list of people you want to follow on Twitter (Your competitor’s followers), the next stage is to follow these people in the hope they follow you back and interact with your page. So load up Tweet Adder and log into your account.
- On the left hand side menu, you will see a section that says ‘Search Users To Follow’. In that section, click on the option ‘Followers Of A User’. The next page will then give you the option to enter a user’s Twitter user name. This user name is the end part that is unique to them, so say for example their Twitter page URL is http://twitter.com/#!/datecom147, then the bit you take would be datecom145. Once you have entered that Twitter User, click ‘search now’.
- It will then tell you it is extracting Ids from the pages. Once it is done, it will present you with a list of the people’s followers. Click the ‘Save All’ button at the bottom right hand side of the page. It will confirm that you have done this, and tell you if any duplicate people were skipped (People you have already followed or attempted to follow).
- If you want you can check these people were saved by going to the ‘To Follow List’ at the top of the Tweet Adder sidebar.
- The next stage is to go to the ‘Follow / Unfollow Users’ section of the sidebar, and click ‘Follow’. If you haven’t already got any followers, I suggest you only set it to follow 50 people the first day. This is because if you follow too many people and have no one following you, it’ll look weird to people. Because of this, they most likely won’t end up following you back. So in the ‘Send Follows Now’ section, enter ’50’ then press ‘start’. You can now leave your computer on and do whatever else you have to while these people are automatically followed for you in the background.
Also if you send too many follows straight away it can appear like you’re spamming people, so keep it at a conservative level for now.
- One thing you may want to do in the mean time is set your unfollow settings. So go to the ‘Unfollow Users’ section in the left sidebar, and enter the following settings:
# To Unfollow: 500 (You can change this number to match your own personal needs as you have more or less people to follow), Maximum Follows To Send Per Day: 500. You also want to make sure you select to Unfollow Any NonReciprocal Followers, and that you have the last check box ticked and you make it 3 days until you unfollow these NonReciprocal Followers. We select 3 days as we want to make sure people get enough time to follow us back. Not everyone uses their Twitter account every day. Having said that, if they don’t use it at least every 3 days, they are going to be of little use to us when it comes to promoting.
- The above settings have basically told Tweet Adder to unfollow people if they haven’t followed us back within three days. When you want to unfollow people, simply go on the ‘Unfollow Users’ tab and click ‘Start’. This will automatically unfollow anyone that matches this criteria. Do this once a day so it doesn’t look like you’re following more people then are following you.
And that’s it, you can rinse and repeat. Using this method you will get a lot of relevant people following your Twitter account. You can add these people as fast or as slow as you want, but I’d advice going at a medium speed and mixing it up with the manual Twitter promotion we mention below.
Other Twitter Automation Points
Here are some other points you can use to more effectively automate your Twitter account:
Change the above numbers to match your needs. Once you start getting more followers, I’d suggest that you up the amount of people you follow daily. 50 is a good number to start off with, but as you’ve got say 300 people following your back, up the number of people you’re following. Even 75 – 100 people every couple of days is a good number, so give it a try.
I’d advice you don’t automatically follow back people that follow you. If they’re genuine followers and want information about you, then you won’t have to follow them back to get them to keep following you. These are exactly the type of people we want on our Twitter account, as they’re the ones who interact with your page and re tweet your info. If they’re just following you so you can follow them back, then they’re most likely promoting something and won’t be interested in what you have to offer.
Another way to get more people back to your site and doing what you want is sending them out an automated message. Simple go to the ‘Other Messages’ section on Tweet Adder and enter your 140 character message in the form area. Make sure you include a call to action and a link to your site which they can click. There is a URL shortener you can use right below this form, so use that if your website link is taking up too much space. Send out these messages a couple of days after you have followed a bunch of new people, and make sure you send them to your newest followers first.
I personally like to send messages about the free things they can get for signing up to my mailing list. If you’re involved in the music industry for example, you could send:
“Want a quick music career boost? Then get our free ebook ‘Music Business Domination’ here: *enter URL*”.
Whenever I send out messages like this, I always get an influx of new subscribers. If you’re a musician, you could also send out something like:
“Like *Insert name of similar musician here*? Then see a host of other great similar song here for free: *enter URL*”.
Once you run out of people to follow, simply find a new related Twitter page and add all of their followers. Rinse and repeat.
If you ever run out of related Twitter pages to follow their followers, simply go back to the first one and follow their followers again. Do this to all the profiles you have previously got, as there is a good chance they will have new followers you can take advantage of.
It is important to leave a new message up on your profile every time you follow a bunch of new people. This keeps things interesting for your current followers, and gives everyone something new to do. Just make sure your new message includes a strong call to action.
And that’s how you automate your Twitter promotion and get people to do what you want (Going back to your website / learning more about you / signing up to your mailing list / buying your product etc). Remember, while it’s not totally essential to send out new Tweets everyday with updates, you will get more people going back to your site and staying interactive with you if you send at least one new Tweet a day. So if you want to use Twitter as one of your main funnels for new potential followers (You probably should) make sure you show some level of interaction on your profile. We will talk more about how to do this in below sections.
Using Twitter On The Move
One of the great things about Twitter, is it’s easy to use on the move. If you have a smart phone, you can easily control your Twitter account wherever you go.
The thing about tweeting, is it’s meant to be spur of the moment and about what’s happening at the time. Therefore if you are doing something to do with your business and it goes well, you may want to tweet about it straight away. You could let people know how it went, or even better ask people how they think you done. You could encourage people to come and talk to you if you’re outside, which can lead to you getting to know your community members even better and possibly making sales.
There are numerous Twitter apps you can download for free if you have a decent smart phone. Simply go to your relevant app store, search for ‘Twitter’, and download the top rated or highest appearing one. You may want to try out one or two to see which one your prefer, but usually the ones near the top are often the best.
Even if you haven’t got a phone that supports apps but does have the internet, you may be able to use the Twitter website via your phone. This can also be useful for using Twitter on the move, as you’ll still be able to do the basics just fine.
Another benefit of Tweeting on the move, is it saves a lot of time. Instead of Tweeting on your computer when you should be writing lyrics or sorting out your paper work, you can instead do it when you have a bit of time to spare. Let’s say you’ve got a bit of down time but have nothing else to do. Or when you’re simply waiting for the bus to come when going to meet your friends. You’re not doing anything else, and you Tweeting isn’t getting in the way of anything else more important. You’re being productive, and working on your promotion when you would otherwise be doing nothing. Great stuff!
If you haven’t already got a smart phone, you should think of investing in one. It’ll allow you to easily market on the move, not just give you better quality games.
If you can’t afford one, that’s not a problem. Once you can though, you should seriously think about getting one. You don’t have to get the most expensive one or the latest model, but at least get one that allows you to download apps and gives you full internet access. These apps will allow you to do a lot of different things with your phone, some of which will directly benefit your online business in a positive way.
